According to the 2018 European Business Aviation Economic Value & Business Benefits report, here are 10 interesting facts that will make you an expert on the big picture.

  1. The entire BizAv fleet totals 3,573 aircraft with Light Jets and Turboprops making up approximately 60% of the aircraft types in use.  Heavy Jets and Midsize Jets make up 35%.
  2. Germany has by far the largest fleet at 726 aircraft with UK and France next with 498 and 439 respectively.
  3. There are 1,391 airports with BizAv traffic in Europe with France dominating departures from Paris Le Bourget and Nice Côte d’Azur making up 25,918 and 17,542 respectively.  Geneva and London are next in line with 17,086 and 14,593.
  4. The top 5 country pairs for international markets are
    France – UK
    France – Switzerland
    France – Italy
    France – Germany
    Germany – UK
  5. From a market share position, Slovakia holds the highest ratio with 23% of its market dedicated to BizAv. Portugal holds the smallest market share at 2.9%.
  6. While most markets feature a fleet composition of Jets and turboprops, Lithuania employs jets exclusively (11) while Iceland uses turboprops exclusively (8).
  7. The most common aircraft across all markets is the PC-12 NG.
  8. There are 374,000 jobs directly or indirectly related to business aviation in Europe.
  9. Virtually every European market showed year over year growth in business aviation in 2017.  Measured in total departures, France was highest at 127,923 and Lithuania lowest at 1,484.
  10. Central Asia, Africa and Middle East are the most popular intercontinental destinations.
